Alice H. Matthews' Obituary
Alice H. Matthews, 87, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in Fayetteville.
She was born July 24, 1925 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the daughter of Thomas Hinkle and Lessie Crowder Hollimon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam J. Matthews on July 28, 2000 and a son, James Lynn Bostick.
She was secretary to the Veterans Administration Medical Center director and chief of staff, retiring in 1982 after 34 years of government service. She was a life time member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was active in the First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville where she served as an elder. She was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School in 1944 and grew up in Little Rock. She married Sam J. Matthews in 1954 and moved to Fayetteville that same year.
She is survived by a son, Barry Wayne Bostick of Garfield, AR; a daughter, Tommye Alice Thompson of Springdale, AR; a brother, Milton Hollimon of Fort Smith, AR; a sister, Mary Grace Edmondson of Little Rock, AR; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Moore’s Chapel. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, October 22, 2012 at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville with burial at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
