Billie 'Bill' Burke Hodnett's Obituary
On October 17, 2011, Billie Burke Hodnett Sr. parked his RV for the last time and flew away home to loved ones waiting there. Those awaiting his arrival: son Billy Hodnett Jr., parents Burke and Cora Hodnett, cousins Gary and Nita Bedford, and a host of loving spirits gone before.
Bill was a gentle man as well as a gentleman in spite of his extreme partisanship in all things “Razorback”. Red was his favorite color. Go Hogs Go!
Bill’s kind heart made him a rare individual in his professional life as an auditor for the IRS. This earned him a special title with the southern farmers who called him “Refund Hodnett”.
Bill will be missed by his family and three chubby dogs, who will no doubt slim down without the doggie treats he so generously fed them. Family: wife Faye Yvonne, daughter Shelley, grandchildren Jonathon, Amy, Jason, Jeremiah, Jessica, great-grandchild Jonna Belle, sister Nell Thomason in Millington, TN, brother Frank Hodnett in Texarkana, AR, and not to forget the three chubby dogs Mr. Pepper, Abe, and Maddie.
Bill gave back to his country and community through time and love of people by service in the Air Force during the Korean War, treasurer for Rolling Hills Baptist Church for 35 years, starting up the VITA program in Northwest Arkansas, secretary with Evening Lions in Fayetteville, volunteer for the DAV, among many other service associations. In the spirit of giving, the family requests that in lieu of food or flowers donations be made to the Willard Walker Hospice Home (PO Box 356, Fayetteville, AR 72702) and CEO food bank donations accepted at Rolling Hills Baptist Church.
Bill was born on October 22, 1930. To honor and celebrate his faith and love, the family is extending this as an invitation to join them Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Rolling Hills Baptist Church for a birthday party. The party will move to the family’s home to call the hogs. Kick-off is at 11:21 a.m. against Ole Miss with Arkansas favored to win!
The family wants to thank everyone for their love and support through this time. Love and blessings to all!
P.S. Wearing red or Razorback attire is appropriate at the birthday party!
