Carolyn Beth Banks' Obituary
Carolyn Beth Duty Banks, age 94, of Fayetteville passed away Monday May 25, 2026. She was born May 11, 1932 in Rogers, Arkansas to Jeff Davis Duty Sr. and Lois White Duty. She graduated from the University of Arkansas where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society. She taught in the Fayetteville Public Schools and was a staff member of the University of Arkansas. She published one book and several articles and was included in the Who’s Who of American Women. In 2007 she received an award from the Arkansas Historical Association for an article published in the Flashback. She was a member of Episcopal Church and the Third Order of St. Francis. She was a member of Clan MacDuff of Scotland, Delta Delta Delta sorority, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the 20th Century Club and the Northwest Arkansas Scottish Society. She was a member of the Friends of the Public Library and past Board member for the University of Arkansas Retirement Association. She served as an officer of the City Hospital Auxiliary Board for many years. She was devoted to dogs and raised a number of Skye Terriers and Dachshunds. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Warren E. Banks and her son, Keith Randolph Banks.
Survivors include her beloved daughter, Karen Marie Banks of Fayetteville; two brothers, John W. Duty and his wife Susan of Rogers, Arkansas and Jeff Davis Duty Jr. of New Jersey; grandchildren, Gregg Overman and his wife Sherie and Carolyn Dungan. She is also survived by three nephews, Steven Duty, Stuart Duty and John Duty; three nieces, Diana Duty West, Lisa Duty Koenig and Laura Duty Selig; she also very close to her cousins, Mary Elizabeth Melton Phillips and Sarah Jane Polk of Little Rock Marilyn Dean Langford and Jolynn Duty Deason of Rogers, Helen Jane Dean and Virginia Dean Scruggs, Michael Duty and Thomas Melton.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. Memorial service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday June 16, 2026 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Potter, W. H. Taylor, Hugh Kincaid, Rick McKinney and Gregg Overman
