Dr Douglas Charles Swacina's Obituary
Dr. Douglas Charles Swacina, 78, of Springdale, AR, died Friday December 30, 2005, in Springdale. He was born January 9, 1927, in Sioux Falls, SD to George J. and Irene (Hull) Swacina.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota. After graduation, he had a private veterinary practice in Wisconsin.
In 1968, he joined the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, serving in Pine Bluff, AR, Springdale, AR, Washington D.C., Alameda, CA, and Dallas, TX before retiring and returning to Springdale in 1993.
His parents, two brothers, Clinton and Gregory, and one sister, Muriel Beske, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta (Guelzow) Swacina, whom he married on August 29, 1948, one son, Dwane and wife Kim of Lubbock, TX, one daughter, Linda of Miami, FL, two grandsons, Steven and Brian, three sisters, Faythe Hrubesky of Mt. Horeb, WI, Betty Nygard of DeForest, WI, and Joan Skalet of Black Earth, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Swacina was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2925 North Old Missouri Road Fayetteville.
