I live out of state and just found out at this late date of Charlie's passing. I first knew Charlie in the late 50s as we both played in the Fayetteville baseball leagues. I remember Charlie from those days in his baseball uniform slamming home runs just like it was yesterday. I also had the pleasure of working with Charlie at the Fayetteville Fire Department in the early 70s. Although I left the area and didn't see Charlie after that, I thought of him through the years at times when thinking of those great times playing baseball. Charlie was one of the very best to come out of the Fayetteville leagues during that time frame as evidenced by his signing with the Cardinals. I was honored to have known Charlie and if Heaven has a fire station and/or a baseball field I know Charlie will be holding down the fort! Prayers and best wishes to the family.
