Connie is seven years older than I am and, when you are a 10-year old girl, 17-year old cousins are oh so cool! When we would visit Denver from Wisconsin several times a year, I would watch Connie and Becky with wide eyes and open ears. They were exactly who I wanted to be when I was a teenager. Connie and Becky would let me sleep over at Aunt Judy’s while the rest of my family stayed at Aunt Pat’s. They allowed me to stay in their room and would talk about boys, classes, friends, and all of their teenage shenanigans and I felt so, so special. Connie gave me my first pair of high heels and both girls would send me home with clothes from their closet. Talk about awesome! I remember one specific trip to Denver where Connie got permission to bring me to her Poms practice. She was dancing a routine to “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa. I remember the details of that afternoon vividly; what she was wearing, how her shoulders looked while she danced the moves, the way her big, curled, blonde hair would bounce as she jumped around. I stared at every move and the way she would mouth the words to a song I wasn’t allowed to listen to when I was home. I felt so cool. She introduced me to her friends and engaged me in their conversations. To this day, that is such a special memory. I talked about it for months back with my 5th grade friends. Even now, as a grown adult woman, Connie had a way of making me feel like that excited 10-year old girl while in her presence. Her welcoming personality made you feel like she had been waiting for you to arrive for days. She had a way of making people feel like the most special person in the room. While out in Denver for Kate and Aaron’s wedding, we had a bbq at Mark and Molly’s house. Connie beamed with her beautiful smile and throughout the whole night, she said, over and over, “We need to see each other more” and When can you come down to Arkansas?” I can still hear her contagious laugh from game night while 15 of us played Telestrations. Connie knew how to bring everyone together in one place and keep people loving their time together while they were there. I know she’s in love with her new home in Heaven and I look forward to the day when she gets to show all of us around and introduce us to the angels. For now, the world is a little bit lonelier and not as bright without her. Jesus took one of the very best home to be with Him and I can only imagine how the trumpets sounded and the angels danced when they welcomed her Home.
