David Edward Covington's Obituary
David Edward Covington, 81, passed away on August 20, 2025, in Springdale. He was born on September 28, 1943, in Texarkana, Arkansas to the late Homer Covington and Mary (Reagan) Holt.
Dave married the love of his life, Joanne Poovey, in the summer of 1964. Together they had two children, Janine and Eric and two grandsons Carter and Garrett.
In 1970 he and Joanne moved from Wichita, Kansas to Rogers and started Covington Construction Company with a backhoe, a dump truck and a dream. Through hard work, dedication and love, together Dave and Joanne built the successful construction company, DECCO Contractors-Paving, Inc. In 1983 while working Dave suffered a fall that changed the course of his life. He didn’t allow his injury to define him rather he embraced it. Defying the doctors, he beat the odds and walked again. His determination proved to be an inspiration to many where he was regarded as a well-known no nonsense business leader and developer in Northwest Arkansas. After retirement Dave loved spending time with his Grandsons. Their conversations usually revolved around antique cars, trucks and of course construction equipment.
Today we acknowledge a life well lived, the accomplishments and accolades that he received here on earth and to celebrate that he is walking, running and working pain free in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Nobia Story, Dale Campbell, Phyllis Pettypool, Joe Covington, and Jim Dunn.
David is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joanne (Poovey) Covington; son, Eric Covington (Kristy); daughter, Janine Covington (Danette Daniel); and siblings, Brenda Hull (Tom), Peggy Potter (David), Faye Goodwin (Johnny), Dale Covington, Danny Covington, Ray Covington, Larry Campbell, and Jerry Campbell (Margot); and 2 grandsons, Carter Smith (Haley) and Garrett Covington.
His visitation will be on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 5 until 7pm in Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, Rogers. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 10am at First Christian Church in Rogers with committal to follow at Rogers Cemetery.
