Donald F. Shefte's Obituary
Donald F Shefte died at 96 years old on December 26. A resident of Arkansas for 6 years, he lived most of his life in San Diego, California. He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years Eleanor Gustafson Shefte, his daughter Carey Shefte and Bob Thomas of Middleburg, Virginia, his son Fred and daughter-in-law Diana Shefte of Fayetteville, one brother Jack Shefte of Oregon, two grandchildren David Shefte of Littleton, Colorado and Alison Mitchell of Los Angeles and five great grandchildren.
Don was a much beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a Presbyterian elder and a man of great faith and much love.
After moving his family from Chicago to La Jolla, California in 1950, he was a creative and successful architect and designed many residences and commercial buildings all over San Diego. Later he owned South Coast Flowers and grew carnations commercially. He was a pioneer of shipping San Diego grown flowers all over the world.
Don landed on Utah Beach the day after D-Day, ran the fire direction center of the 50th field artillery of the Fifth Division, fighting all the way across Europe.
His family is proud of all he did in life, but mostly we loved him as our Pop.
