Hugh Gerrard Gainey's Obituary
Hugh Gerrard Gainey, age 87, of Rogers passed away May 3, 2026, in Rogers. He was born October 6, 1938, in Houston, Texas, the son of James Wylie and Evelyn Gerrard Gainey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Gainey, a sister Allison Stephens and a daughter-in-law Dana Gainey.
He was a graduate of the University of Texas and University of Houston. He worked as a Chemical Engineer and Safety Engineer. Hugh was an avid sailor, photographer, gardener, cook, manager, director, husband, father, great-grandfather and PawPaw. He was a member of the Bentonville Church of Christ as well as an elder. He was a member of the Engineering Society and was the Vice President of Austin Graduate School of Theology. Hugh was also a camp director and cub scout leader.
He is survived by his wife, Elanie Gainey of 65 years; their three children, Claudia Bement of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brian Gainey of Conway, Arkansas and Dale Gainey and his wife, Amanda of Rogers, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Joel Bement and his wife, Elizabeth (and their daughters, Eleanor and Rosalie), Paul Bement, Austin Gainey, Carson Gainey, Elliot Gainey, Madison Smith and her husband, Justin, Jackson Gainey and his wife, Cassie (and their daughter, Channing), Greyson Gainey, Baylor Lacewell and Finley Lacewell; one brother, John Paul Gainey; and numerous other family members.
A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday May 5, 2026, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home Rogers. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bentonville Church of Christ with a private family burial at Pinnacle Memorial Gardens.
