Mrs. Quinn was my English teacher At Farmington High School - a truly fantastic teacher!
She demanded lots from us - 20 spelling words weekly complete with use of each word in a sentence, and Webster's Dictionary definition. And, grammar galore including sentence diagrams, prefixes and suffixes. And, American literature, English literature, and poetry.
We were so blessed to study from someone who cared deeply that we learn the basics.
I was not her best student, but what she taught me enabled me to become a scientific proof reader and writer for the Federal Food and Drug Administration's, Center for Veterinary Medicine in Rockville, Maryland, where I worked for 37 years. I reviewed the work of >150 veterinarians and scientists whose job was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of new animal drugs. We published approvals in the FEDERAL REGISTER and displayed labeling and freedom of information summaries of each drug approval. I was listed as the "contact person" on dozens of drug approvals --thanks to Joe.
Because Joe challenged me and my classmates, we became successful. I could not have done my job at FDA but for Joe's training, especially in spelling and grammar. I am eternally grateful for Joe's superb teaching skills. We were able to visit at Savoy Community building a couple of years ago when our Class of 1963 held a reunion. I will always cherish our student/teacher relationship. Joe was a truly great teacher!
I was so blessed to study under Joe! I will miss her, but never forget her!
Blessings to all her family and friends.
