Joe Carnes Guinn's Obituary
Joe Carnes Guinn, age 88, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 29, 2020. She was born on July 28, 1932, in Enid, Oklahoma, to John-Varro and Elma (Bartel) Carnes.
Joe was passionate about Education, graduating from both High School and College a year early and earning her M.A. in English. She ran a reading center in Philadelphia, taught students in public schools in South Arkansas, Farmington, and Fayetteville, and also taught correspondence courses at the University of Arkansas. After retiring she continued to teach living history at Headquarters House through the Washington County Historical Society.
She was an ardent traveler visiting all 50 United States as soon as she could get to them. Upon retirement, she became a world traveler, visiting all 7 continents learning about cultures, local histories, and nature all over the world.
Her children often joked that she was a pioneer-wanna-be as she hunted, baked from scratch, made her own soap, grew her own garden, canned and preserved the vegetables, rode horses, raised poultry, and eschewed anything technologic.
She is survived by her two children, Steve Guinn and wife Anne of Fayetteville, and Deborah Guinn of Kingsland, Texas, and 3 grandchildren: Grant Guinn, Cherie Guinn, and Joelowis Guinn.
Due to Covid, no memorial service is scheduled at this time, but donations in her memory would be appreciated to either St. Joseph’s Indian School (https://www.stjo.org/) or The Humane Society of the Ozarks (https://hsozarks.org/).
