Dr. John David Story's Obituary
Dr. John David Story, 65 of Fayetteville, AR passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Springdale, AR. He was born April 15, 1946 in Dallas, TX to Glenn Roscoe Story and Lucille Beatrice Kirkland Story.
Dr. Story graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, TX, then received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He continued his education by earning his Master of Science in Microbiology and his Doctor of Philosophy in Immunology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He worked for Campbell Soup as a research scientist from 1977 until 1994 then began his career as a Professor of Microbiology at Northwest Arkansas Community College in 1995 until his death. He was also an Adjunct Professor at The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
He was an active member for 40 years of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville where he served as deacon. He was also a former member of Fayetteville Rotary Club.
John was a loving husband and father. He loved learning and dedicated his life to the education of others. His gentle spirit, sunny personality, and unique humor brought joy to his family, friends, and students. He is sorely missed on earth, but he is now in the presence of God discovering the answers to his insatiable curiosity about the natural world.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Glenn Thomas Story.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Jan Tharel Story; one son, Jonathan Story of Fayetteville, one brother; Guy Walter Story and his wife Aracely of Plano, TX, three brothers in laws; Lance Tharel of Booneville, AR, Kent Tharel of Fayetteville, AR, Gregg Tharel and his wife Carol of Little Rock, AR, one sister in law; Ellen Story of McKinney, TX, as well as Connie Tharel of Fayetteville, AR, Anna Tharel of Booneville, AR, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in Mitchell Hall at the First Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 30, 2011 in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Dr. Douglas Falknor officiating. Private committal will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
