Julia Harriett McCoy's Obituary
Julia Harriett McCoy died at home in Fayetteville on November 27, 2006. She was born July 13, 1943, in Jennings, LA. Both her parents, Kenneth Elbert and Wilda Mae (Anderson) McCoy, predeceased her. Harriett completed B.S. and M.S. degrees at Louisiana State University and the Ph.D. degree in human nutrition at Iowa State University. Dr. McCoy joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas in 1973, as Assistant Professor in the Department of Home Economics, where she remained until her retirement as Professor in 2002. She taught nutrition for health professionals and various other courses, and conducted research related to nutrition and bone formation and to nutritional health of young girls in the South. She was a dedicated and tireless teacher and advisor of university students, and a diligent and capable researcher. As a friend, she was loyal, caring and ever generous.
