Katharine C. Hantz, age 99, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Fayetteville. She was born July 8, 1914 in Verona, Mississippi, the daughter of Gilbert and Lucile Gilbert Clark. She was preceded in death by her husban Read Obituary
Prof. Harold Hantz was an important influence during my undergraduate years at UAF 1949-53. Through him I met Mrs. Hantz, and became acquainted with her at the library. When I returned to the university as a professor, Harold and Katie were welcoming to me and my wife Jo. Dick Bennett, Prof. Emer. English Dept.

Katherine leaves her mark on our community through her service and involvement. We are grateful for her leadership in the League of Women Voters.
Katharine contributed much to her community and the University of Arkansas. I thank her for her service in the American Association of University Women and as its past president.
I enjoyed knowing Katie in the Modern Literature Club. She once helped me find a copy of an almost forgotten 1910 Broadway play, finally hunting down a copy in Denver, Colorado! She was such an asset to the library and a lovely person.
I worked at the Reference Desk for about 2 years in the early 70s with Mrs. Hantz. She was a fun smart person, and I enjoyed everything about working with her ! I see some other tributes to her - and I agree totally. I did interlibrary loan as her assistant and for awhile as her stand-in (when she went on sabbatical leave with her husband). I have fond memories of working with Mrs. Hantz. She was my boss in the Interlibrary Loan Department in the UA Library. She taught me about library resources such as the National Union Catalog. She was a patient teacher, and helped me to become a better employee. I enjoyed her smile and laugh. Once she gave me a gift from one of her trips, a print of Dove Cottage in England. It hangs in my living room. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
I worked with Mrs. Hantz in the Reference Dept. at the U of A and she was a kind teacher and an excellent librarian. She helped me learn when I came into the profession and encouraged me. My thoughts are with her family. Sincerely,
I worked for Dr. Harold Hantz years and years ago in the Philosophy Dept at the UA and remember Mrs. Hantz fondly. She was always such a pleasant lady to visit with. So sorry to hear of her loss.
