Katharine C. Hantz's Obituary
Katharine C. Hantz, age 99, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Fayetteville. She was born July 8, 1914 in Verona, Mississippi, the daughter of Gilbert and Lucile Gilbert Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold D. Hantz.
She was a retired reference librarian at the University of Arkansas. She graduated from Ole Miss with a Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in English. It is there at Ole Miss she met and married her husband Dr. Harold Hantz. During World War II she was a member of the Signal Corp Code Breaking Group.
She was a founding member of Fayetteville Unitarian Fellowship and the Modern Literature Club. She was past president of the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Edwin Hantz and his wife Joan of Rockland, Maine and David Hantz and wife Susan of Kensington, California; three grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Hantz of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Matthew Hantz of New York City and Giulianna Hantz of Rockland, Maine; three great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.
Graveside will be 10:00 am Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Fayetteville National Cemetery, Fayetteville, Arkansas, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
