As a kid in junior high school, I knew Mr. Hoppe as the father of my friend JoJo. He was a superb mentor for the teenagers in the youth group at Mabelvale United Methodist Church, and I will always remember him as such. Of particular significance to me has always been -- and this is something that will stick with me forever -- his gift to me of the book Kon Tiki. This travel log, which presents the story of a man who went against all political criticism in endeavoring to prove (and succeeding in proving) the possibility of something, remains an inspiration to me, as does the note that Mr. Hoppe wrote inside the cover: "Dear Lara, May you never lose your sense of adventure."

Your family is warmly remembered from your time at Mabelvale Methodist Church, and Mike, for the special rapport he enjoyed with the youth of the congregation. Please know that Lara and I hold you in our hearts at this time and that the memories of that "special" time in the past will be forever treasured.
Be assured that God walks beside you and will guide you gently from the shadows back into the sunlight.
Many young men benefited from Michaels kind guidance, while he was a leader. We're so very sorry for your loss. The world was a better place with Michael in it.

May I say I truely wish I had known about this. I LOVED you guys dearly and had the BEST times with your family as my next door neighbors. I moved away from the house but my heart never moved from the love of our friendship.
I remember Mike, Mike & you, Mike and the kids or just him coming to the Flight Deck to eat. I wanted to talk more with you. So sorry we lost contact.
I hope little Tim Jr. is cooking up the evening grill out for Mike as I did, for he, too is in heaven. Please give me a call or email me.
