Nancy Viola Dyke's Obituary
Nancy Viola Dyke, 91, passed away June 12, 2020 in Fayetteville. Born at Thompson on May 30, 1929 to Clement Lester and Callie Vandora (Davenport) Vanlandingham. She was a lifelong resident of the Pinnacle community.
Tall in stature, Nancy found her perfectly matched waltz partner in 1950 when she married the equally tall Russell (Jake) Dyke. Together they worked hard on their small family farm and waltzed for nearly 44 years before his passing. A strong, independent woman of many talents, she could mend a broken fence and minutes later bake a delicious peach cobbler. A Christian in faith, Nancy always had a warm smile, kind heart, and giving nature to her family, friends, and neighbors. Not many visitors departed her home without enjoying a meal or being handed fruits and vegetables harvested from her immaculate garden. Receiving one of her homemade hot rolls or a jar of her dill pickles was a special treat.
Nancy enjoyed western swing and bluegrass music and was a skilled mandolin player. For decades she accompanied the many musicians that play monthly at the Pinnacle community building.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, husband, sisters Irene Drain and Helen Smith, brothers Carl, John, and Leonard Vanlandingham, great-grandson Blake Sloan, son-in-law Doug Williford, and daughter-in-law Linda Dyke.
Nancy is survived by daughters Paula Williford-Combs (Burl) of Elkins and Sherryl Barger of Farmington; son Carlos Dyke of Elkins; step-son Carey Dyke (Julie) of Fair Oaks, California; sister Edna Bowman of Elkins; sister-in-law Pat Dyke of Elkins; brother-in-law Norman Pelz of Clearwater, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren as well as an additional blended family of 7 step-grandchildren, 21 step-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will also be missed by the many musicians she participated with in the Pinnacle music group and her neighbors that visited her regularly.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Pinnacle Cemetery(GPS coordinates: 35.9343987, -93.8974991), with pastor Larry Mitchell officiating. As we honor her remarkable life, the family requests that all attendees practice social distancing and wear a face covering. Arrangements are by Moore’s Funeral Home.
