Lynne & Alexander:

I am very very sorry for your loss. Although Phil was not a well man for quite sometime, I know that when he called me in July of last summer, he was the happiest he'd sounded in a long, long time. It was a long difficult job taking such good care of my sister, Angie with almost 13 years of ovarian cancer. He cared for her with the spirit of an angel. I really hoped he'd have some time to really enjoy golfing and retirement. It was so hard to know that he had to face such difficult medical problems. But, hearing him tell me last July how happy he was - well, that was wonderful! He really wanted so much for me to meet you, Lynne! He was so happy and proud and reminded me of his old self. I'm sorry that we had not communicated since then but people just get so busy in their lives and I'm sure you made the most of your time together.

I'm sorry I was unable to come to Arkansas for the service. I hope you understand. If you come up for a service at Augustana, I would hope to connect with you at that time.

Also, thank you for telling me that you have some things of my sister to give to me. It was so hard to lose her and sometimes I still miss her so much.

I'm sure you have a lot on your mind right now so just take care of yourself and your son who is probably graduating this year if I remember right...I think Phil told me he was a senior. He also bragged so about your schooling so I know that you have a lot on your plate right now.

I have made a donation to the Kidney Foundation in Phil's name.

To My Dear Husband Phillip,
I am so honored to have the title wife and the love of your life. You said your goal in life was to make me happier than I had have ever been before and you did, so completely! A bird sang so beautifully yesterday during your interment and two geese flew by so eloquently as you were laid to rest. Alex and I placed two beautiful roses on your coffin to symbolize what you gave us the last year of your life, your whole heart and soul. You were an excellent father and role-model for Alex. He plans to honor you by continuing to aspire academically. He placed his notification of his Distinguished Governor's Scholoarship notification in your coffin as he knew that you were anxiously awaiting the notification so you could congratulate, hug him and as you did on many occassions say, "I love you, Alex." We will love you forever, you were truly an angel walking this earth. We look forward to the day we can be together again. We take comfort knowing that you now sing with the angels above and that you will continue to watch over us and bless us each and every day as you did so well on earth. Your adoring wife and son. I knew Phil for 30 years. The first softball team I played on was Midwest Postal Venders, we wore red/white/blue uniforms and Phil came to most of the games. When he opened Valley Sports my brother helped him run their annual softball tournement. My son was born the weekend of the tourney in 1978.

When I worked out of town opening new restraunts Phil would stop and have coffee in his many travels.

Phil had a voice of an angel, when he sang the Lords Prayer it never failed that I would cry.
I will miss him.

Phil was the most caring person I know.
Always smiling...even when I got my promotion and no longer worked the front counter, when he came in to take care of business, he would ask for me, just to say "hello." He'll be missed!
