Sandra Sue Smith's Obituary
Sandra Sue (Doss) Smith, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born March 3, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harold Alfred Horne and Betty Mae Wilson. She moved to Southern California where she met and married her high school boyfriend. They moved to Fayetteville in 1965 where she lived the rest of her years. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dog Anny Ann. She leaves behind a colorful story she wrote authentically herself.
Sandy was a friend to everyone she met. Her easy going personality and compassionate spirit left an indelible mark on everyone that knew her. Sandy was known for her free-spirited nature and open mind and embraced people from all walks of life. She was always unapologetically herself and we loved that about her.
Sandra had many passions through the years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, thrifting, going to the beach, and she had a deep affection for animals. Her little rescue dog Anny was by her side for 17 years.
Sandra held several interesting jobs throughout her life, but she took the greatest pride in her years as a dedicated Walmart associate, where she eventually retired. Raising her three daughters was her proudest achievement, and she loved being “Meme” to her granddaughters, with whom she shared a very special bond.
She is survived by her daughters, Jinger Lane (Tom) of Dallas, Texas; Jeanette Koons (James) of Fayetteville; and Jennifer Doss Davis (Curt) of Fayetteville. She has 3 granddaughters, Blair Koons, Sara Koons, and Allison Koons, and 3 great grandchildren, Arleigh and Bynx Koons, and Leo Green. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Sheila Hayden, and her close friend Sharon Erickson, as well as a host of extended family, friends and grand dogs.
A celebration of Sandra’s beautiful life will be held at a later date, where we will honor her memory in the way she would have wanted — with laughter, stories, and open hearts. Sandy is so loved and missed. She was one of a kind and will be forever in our hearts.
