Thomas E. Oberley's Obituary
Thomas E. Oberley, 80, of Rogers, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006. He was born Sept. 8, 1925 in Vanndale, Arkansas. The son of Ben E. and Martha Jane (Spencer) Oberley, he retired from the US. Army after 34 years of service. At the age 16 he joined the US. Navy, serving on the US Carbonero in the Pacific front.
He attended Arkansas State College on the GI Bill. Upon graduation, he resumed his military career in the US. Army. He retired in 1975 after 34 years of service to his country.
He is survived by two daughters; Tommie Ann Reed and husband, Hollis of Pineville, Louisiana, Mary Catherine Shelton of Redmond, Washington, four grandchildren; Captain Jeremy T. Reed of Washington D.C., Captain Amanda Beth Reed of San Antonio, Texas, Kristin Reed of Auburn, Alabama, and Conrad Shelton of Redmond, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Geraldine Oberley and son Michael J. Oberley.
Colonel Oberley will be remembered for his love of family and country. He lived as he served his country with dignity and honor.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 PM, Monday, March 27, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Rogers, Arkansas with Rev. Davis Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Fayetteville National Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM till 5:00 PM Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home.
